Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition leaks
July 31, 2026·2 min read
A new version of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North has appeared in Steam’s database before an official announcement. The listing names it The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition, pointing to the return of the 2011 action RPG.
The entry is listed as an unreleased Windows game and does not include a launch date or price. Warner Bros. Games has not announced the project, so it is unclear whether this is a remaster, an updated port or a simple re-release.
Steam Listing Reveals The New Title

The Legacy Edition appeared under Steam App ID 2523770 after previously using the codename Slinky. Its full name was revealed through a database update on July 31, 2026.
The listing supports 64-bit Windows systems and includes Steam achievements. It also shows nine supported languages and a current file size of around 13.2GB, although these details may change before release.
Co-Op Features Could Return
Steam tags attached to the Legacy Edition include single-player, multiplayer, online co-op and local co-op. These match the main modes from the original game, which allowed three players to complete the campaign together.
Epic Online Services has also been detected in the files. This could support modern online features, but cross-platform play and console versions have not been confirmed. The database does not reveal whether the new edition includes improved graphics, performance upgrades or any downloadable content.
War In The North Launched In 2011

Snowblind Studios developed the original game for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It follows three heroes fighting Sauron’s forces across northern Middle-earth while the Fellowship begins its own journey.
Players can control the Ranger Eradan, the Dwarf champion Farin or the Elven Loremaster Andriel. Eachcharacter has different weapons, abilities and skill trees. The original PC version is no longer available to buy on Steam, although existing owners can still download it.
An Official Reveal Has Not Happened
The database update points to a planned return for War in the North. However, the developer, publisher, release date and exact upgrades remain unknown.
Only a PC version has appeared so far. More information should arrive when the Steam page goes live or the project receives an official announcement.
