Former PlayStation boss calls Bloodborne remaster absence a mystery

July 24, 2026·2 min read
Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida has commented on the continued absence of a Bloodborne remaster, PS5 version or PC port. Speaking during a keynote at CEDEC 2026, Yoshida admitted that he does not know why Sony has left the game on PS4.

Yoshida served as president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios before later leading PlayStation’s indie division. He left the company in 2025 after spending more than three decades with PlayStation.

Yoshida Has No Answer For Fans

During his CEDEC appearance, Yoshida discussed games and creators he worked with throughout his PlayStation career. Bloodborne was among the titles covered during the presentation, which looked back at Sony’s relationship with FromSoftware.

Yoshida acknowledged that Bloodborne still has a large international fanbase. He also noted that players frequently ask why Sony has released remasters of other first-party games while Bloodborne remains without a native PS5 or PC edition.

“I get asked ‘Why hasn’t it been released?’ all the time myself, but well... that remains a mystery,” Yoshida said. His comments do not confirm that a new version is being developed.

He Still Hopes Bloodborne Returns

Yoshida did not rule out a future remaster, port or sequel, but he made it clear that he was speaking as a fan rather than sharing inside information. He said a new release might happen, although it could also remain untouched.

The former PlayStation executive added that he hopes the game eventually returns. His comments show that even someone closely involved with PlayStation’s studios does not have a public explanation for Sony’s silence.

Sony Has Not Announced A New Version

Sony and FromSoftware have not announced a Bloodborne remaster, remake, sequel or PC port. Rumors have followed the game for years, but none has resulted in an official project.

Bloodborne launched for PS4 in March 2015 and was developed by FromSoftware with support from Sony’s Japan Studio. It remains one of the few major modern FromSoftware games unavailable on PC.

The PS4 Edition Remains The Only Option

Bloodborne can be played on PS5 through backward compatibility, but it remains the original PS4 version. The PlayStation Store still lists it as a PS4 release, with no dedicated PS5 upgrade or modern performance options.

The original game and its Game of the Year Edition remain available digitally. For now, returning to Yharnam still means playing the 2015 release rather than a remastered edition.
