Final Fantasy 10’s Tid us returns in Resonance on October 22

July 17, 2026·3 min read
Final Fantasy 10’s Tidus is officially returning on October 22 through Final Fantasy Resonance, Square Enix’s upcoming HD-2D RPG for PC and consoles. The game will feature Tidus as one of its “Visions,” a system that brings iconic Final Fantasy heroes into the new adventure.

Final Fantasy Resonance is not a Final Fantasy 10 remake or sequel. It is a new turn-based RPG connected to Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, rebuilt as a full offline release with classic-style battles, exploration and character appearances from across the series.

Tidus Joins The Vision Lineup

Tidus is one of several confirmed Visions in Final Fantasy Resonance. The lineup also includes characters such as Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7, Terra from Final Fantasy 6, Y’shtola from Final Fantasy 14, Zidane from Final Fantasy 9, Shantotto from Final Fantasy 11 and the Warrior of Light from the first Final Fantasy.

Square Enix has not fully detailed Tidus’ combat role yet. His inclusion still gives Final Fantasy 10 fans a clear reason to watch Resonance, especially because Tidus remains one of the series’ most recognizable protagonists.

Resonance Uses Classic Turn-Based Battles

Final Fantasy Resonance is being positioned as a return to older Final Fantasy structure. The game uses turn-based combat, random encounters, resource management and a world map with Chocobo riding and airship travel.

That approach is different from recent mainline entries, which have used more action-focused combat. Resonance is aimed at players who want a more traditional Final Fantasy rhythm, with party building, dungeon management and familiar hero summons playing a major role.

The Game Comes From Team Asano

Square Enix has confirmed that Team Asano is developing Final Fantasy Resonance. The group is known for Octopath Traveler, Bravely Default and other HD-2D RPG projects, which explains the game’s visual style.

Resonance uses pixel characters, 3D spaces, modern lighting and cinematic effects to create the same kind of layered HD-2D look that helped define Octopath Traveler. For Final Fantasy, this makes Resonance a different kind of nostalgia play. It is not trying to copy the PlayStation 2 look of Final Fantasy 10, but it still uses classic series ideas.

Brave Exvius Gets A New Form

Final Fantasy Resonance is linked to Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, the mobile RPG that ended service in 2025. The new game is not being sold as a simple port, and it removes the live-service gacha structure in favor of a complete console and PC release.

Players who followed Brave Exvius now have a version that does not rely on another online mobile setup. Resonance keeps the idea of Visions while turning the experience into a fixed RPG with a full story and no server dependency.

Resonance Launches Across Major Platforms

Final Fantasy Resonance launches on October 22, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. The game is expected to offer around 30 to 40 hours for the main story, with more time needed for full completion.

The platform list gives Square Enix a wide launch for a smaller Final Fantasy project. It also means Tidus will return across console and PC on the same day, rather than being tied to one platform or a limited mobile event.
Final Fantasy X

Final Fantasy X

Final Fantasy X is the tenth main installment in the FF series and the first title released on sixth-generation consoles. It was also the first game to feature fully three-dimensional areas rather than including pre-rendered backdrops, and the first to include voice acting. Final
