Blizzard Plans Diablo 4 Seasons After Diablo 5 as Long as Players Keep Playing

Blizzard says Diablo 4 will keep receiving seasons after Diablo 5 arrives if players remain active. No final season or end-of-support date has been announced.

Blizzard plans to keep releasing Diablo 4 seasons after Diablo 5 launches in 2029, as long as players continue showing up for the game.

Game director Brent Gibson confirmed the long-term approach during an interview at BlizzCon 2026, making clear that the arrival of a new numbered entry will not automatically end seasonal support for its predecessor.

Asked directly whether seasons would continue once Diablo 5 is available, Gibson said Blizzard intends to support Diablo 4 for as long as its community remains active.

That leaves the eventual length of support tied to player interest rather than a predetermined end date. Blizzard has not announced a final season for Diablo 4 or indicated that players will be expected to move immediately to the sequel when it launches.

The commitment applies specifically to continued seasonal support. Blizzard has not promised that seasons released after Diablo 5 will have the same scope, development resources or amount of new content as those produced while Diablo 4 remains the newest mainline game.

Gibson pointed to Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 as examples of how Blizzard sees multiple entries in the series continuing alongside each other.

Both still have active communities and continue receiving support. Diablo 3 begins Season 40 on October 2, while Diablo II: Resurrected received its Reign of the Warlock update in 2026 with a new class and additional content.

Gibson said Blizzard intends to take a similar approach with Diablo 4, with continued support tied to whether its community remains active after Diablo 5 launches.

Diablo 4 still has years of development ahead before the sequel arrives

Diablo 5 is scheduled for spring 2029, leaving Blizzard several more years to develop Diablo 4 before both games are active at the same time.

The current game remains in active seasonal development. Blizzard has already confirmed the Amazon Class Pack for the first half of 2027, while future seasons are planned to continue the current seasonal story and bring further changes to War Plans, itemisation and customization.

What happens farther into the future will depend on how many players remain active once Diablo 5 arrives. For now, Blizzard's plan is for Diablo 4 seasons to continue rather than ending with the sequel's launch.
