Diablo 4 Switch 2 release looks more likely after new rating

June 22, 2026·4 min read
Diablo 4 feels like the kind of game Switch 2 owners would want on the system. It has short dungeon runs, endless loot, seasonal progress, and co-op that would make sense on a console players can use on the TV or in handheld mode. Blizzard has not announced a Nintendo version yet, but a new rating has made the idea feel much more realistic.

The latest clue comes from Taiwan, where Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred has reportedly been rated for Nintendo Switch 2. Ratings do not guarantee a release, but they usually appear for a reason. For players waiting to see whether Blizzard’s action RPG will leave PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, this is one of the stronger signs so far.

The rating points to a current version

The interesting part is that the rating is tied to Lord of Hatred, not only the original Diablo 4 release. That suggests Blizzard may be looking at a Switch 2 version that includes newer expansion content instead of launching with an older package.

A late port needs to feel up to date, especially for a live-service game where players care about seasons, classes, endgame systems, and current content. Switch 2 players would not want to feel like they are starting far behind everyone else.

There is still no official release date, and Blizzard has not confirmed the port. The rating makes the possibility more likely, especially after earlier Nintendo-related listings also pointed toward Diablo 4.

Switch 2 is a better fit than the old Switch

A Nintendo version makes more sense now than it did a few years ago. The original Switch had Diablo 3 and Diablo 2: Resurrected, but Diablo 4 is a heavier game with larger zones, modern visuals, and live-service systems that need steady support.

Switch 2 gives Blizzard a better chance to make the game work without cutting too much away. It also gives Nintendo players another major action RPG for the system, which matters as more third-party studios look at the new hardware.

Grinding dungeons, checking loot, running seasonal content, and playing in shorter sessions all fit handheld play. Diablo has always worked well when players can jump in, clear a few areas, and come back later.

The online requirement is the main concern

Diablo 4 needs an internet connection and a Battle.net account, even for solo play. That is a very different setup from the older Diablo 3 Switch release, which was easier to treat like a portable offline game.

That could limit how useful a Switch 2 version feels on the go. Playing at home, docked, or on good Wi-Fi should be fine if the port is handled well. Playing during travel or in places with weak internet may be a different story.

That does not make the port a bad idea, but it does change expectations. If Blizzard announces it, players will want clear details about online play, performance, content, and whether cross-progression is supported.

Blizzard still needs to say it

For now, the rating is promising but not final. It gives Switch 2 owners a real reason to watch for news, but the next step has to come from Blizzard or Nintendo.

If the port is real, the announcement will need to answer the practical questions quickly. Players will want to know the release date, what version is included, how the game runs in handheld mode, and whether the expansion content arrives at the same time.

A Switch 2 version of Diablo 4 would make sense for Blizzard and for Nintendo’s new console. The rating makes that future look closer, but players should wait for the official reveal before treating it as locked in.
