Edward Kenway skin returns in Rayman Legends Retold

July 13, 2026·3 min read
Ubisoft is bringing back the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Edward Kenway skin in Rayman Legends Retold. The publisher confirmed the crossover costume through the official Rayman account, giving fans another returning extra to expect when the platformer launches later this year.

Rayman Legends Retold is scheduled to release on October 1, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, GeForce Now and Blacknut. The game is a reworked version of the 2013 platformer, with updated visuals, new story content and extra stages.

Edward Kenway returns as a Rayman costume

The returning skin dresses Rayman as Edward Kenway, the pirate Assassin from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Ubisoft shared the costume while also pointing players toward Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the updated version of the 2013 pirate adventure.

It is a small crossover, but it fits Ubisoft’s habit of linking its franchises through cosmetic extras. Rayman Legends already had several playful costumes tied to Ubisoft properties, and the Edward Kenway outfit was one of the more memorable ones because of Black Flag’s lasting popularity.

Black Flag still has a strong fan pull

The timing also works because Black Flag is back in front of players again. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has renewed interest in Edward Kenway, naval combat and the pirate side of Ubisoft’s long-running stealth series.

For Rayman fans, the skin is not a huge gameplay change. It is still a visual extra. But it gives Retold another piece of the original game’s personality, especially for players who remember Ubisoft’s older crossover unlocks and platform-specific costumes.

Retold updates the 2013 platformer

Rayman Legends Retold is not being pitched as a simple port. Ubisoft describes it as a reimagined version of the original game, with 3D visuals, voiced cinematics, a new story, a new villain, a sixth realm and new musical stages.

The remake also adds dragon rides, new challenges and a revamped Kung Foot mode called Kung Foot Evo. The standard edition includes Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition, while the Deluxe Edition adds more digital extras for players who want the larger package.

Ubisoft says the original is staying available

Ubisoft has also moved to calm one concern around the remake. The original Rayman Legends is not being removed or replaced by Retold. That matters because older games have sometimes disappeared from stores when newer editions arrive.

Keeping the original available gives players a choice. They can stick with the 2013 version, which remains one of Ubisoft’s best-liked platformers, or move to Retold for the new look, added content and updated features.

Rayman’s comeback now has a familiar bonus

Rayman has been away from the spotlight for years, with the series mostly kept alive through re-releases, cameos and fan demand. Retold gives Ubisoft a chance to bring the character back without making a fully new mainline game first.

The Edward Kenway skin is another returning detail for that package. Rayman Legends Retold launches on October 1, 2026, and the Black Flag costume will be part of the remake when it arrives.
