Bethesda’s late Fallout 3 anniversary post sparks remaster confusion
Bethesda resurfaced the original Fallout 3 trailer on November 4, but the post had no news on the already-confirmed remaster.
Bethesda has unexpectedly resurfaced the original Fallout 3 trailer, briefly raising hopes that the publisher was finally preparing to show its already-confirmed remaster.
The official Fallout account posted the 2008 trailer on November 4 with the caption “October 28, 2008” and the #BGS40 hashtag. The video contained no new footage or announcement, leaving some players disappointed after initially interpreting the post as a possible remaster tease.
The Fallout 3 tribute arrived more than a week late

Fallout 3 originally launched on October 28, 2008, meaning its 18th anniversary had already passed by the time the trailer appeared on November 4. Bethesda Game Studios had actually marked the anniversary on the correct date with a separate social post celebrating 18 years of exploring the Capital Wasteland.
That made the later trailer upload unusually timed. The #BGS40 hashtag refers to Bethesda Game Studios’ 40th anniversary celebrations, suggesting the video was intended as another retrospective look at one of the studio’s major releases rather than a new product reveal.
Some responses nevertheless showed that viewers initially thought Bethesda was teasing something more substantial. With an official Fallout 3 remaster already known to exist, simply reposting an old trailer without additional context was enough to create confusion.
Fallout 3 Remastered is officially in development
The speculation is different from earlier Fallout 3 remaster rumors because Bethesda has now confirmed the project itself. In July, Bethesda Game Studios announced that it is working on remasters of both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
The studio did not reveal release dates, platforms, screenshots or gameplay footage for either project. It has also not explained how extensive the upgrades will be or whether development is being handled internally or with an outside studio.
That lack of information leaves almost any unusual Fallout 3 activity open to interpretation. Bethesda’s decision to shadow-drop The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered in 2025 has also given players reason to watch for a similarly sudden reveal involving Fallout.
The November 4 post does not provide evidence that such a release is imminent. It uses footage from the original game and contains no reference to the remaster beyond the connection players are making themselves.
Bethesda has several Fallout projects underway
The Fallout 3 remaster is only one part of Bethesda’s current plans for the franchise. A Fallout: New Vegas remaster is also in development, while Fallout 5 remains in pre-production as Bethesda focuses primarily on its next Elder Scrolls RPG.
Bethesda has also confirmed that Obsidian Entertainment is working with the company on another Fallout project. Meanwhile, Fallout 76 is scheduled to receive Raven Rock, a 2027 expansion described as a prequel story connected to Fallout 3.
For players waiting specifically for the Capital Wasteland remaster, however, the situation has not changed. Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 3 is being remastered, but the November 4 trailer repost provides no new release date or additional details about when players will actually see it.
