Rewolt Reveals Open-World RPG Without Quest Markers or Level Scaling

October 15, 2026·3 min read

Rewolt is a new open-world RPG featuring marker-free exploration, fixed enemy levels, timed combat, and permanent faction choices.

Developer Mythic Wave has announced Rewolt, an upcoming open-world action RPG inspired by challenging role-playing games from the early 2000s. The game removes modern navigation aids such as quest markers and yellow paint, instead encouraging players to explore a handcrafted dark fantasy world through observation and conversations.

Revealed through an announcement trailer and Steam listing on October 5, 2026, Rewolt is being developed by a team of approximately 10 people. It features third-person combat, permanent faction choices and a branching story. The game is planned for PC, although a release date has not been announced.

Rewolt replaces quest markers with exploration and NPC guidance

Mythic Wave wants players to navigate Rewolt without relying on highlighted paths or objective markers. Instead, directions will come from NPC conversations, environmental details and the layout of the world itself.

The game also removes enemy level scaling. Creatures have fixed levels based on their locations, meaning players can encounter dangerous opponents even in starting areas. Exploring unfamiliar regions without proper equipment or experience could therefore lead to difficult encounters.

The developer describes character progression as a journey from a weak adventurer to a powerful fighter. Previously dangerous areas should become easier to explore as players develop their abilities.

NPCs will also follow daily schedules, including working, eating and sleeping. Their routines change with the day-night cycle, while player decisions and interactions can influence events throughout the world.

Combat combines timed combos with cooldown-based abilities

Rewolt features a third-person combat system built around timing and positioning. Players can specialize in melee weapons, ranged attacks or magic, with the option to combine all three styles.

Each fighting style uses a shared combo system that rewards well-timed attacks. Instead of traditional stamina and mana systems, abilities rely on cooldowns, requiring players to consider when to use their attacks during encounters.

Character progression is designed to produce noticeable improvements in combat strength. Mythic Wave says players will gradually develop more powerful abilities rather than begin the adventure as experienced fighters.

Two rival factions determine Rewolt's branching story

The story takes place in No Man's Land, a remote canyon region on the fictional continent of Tellus. Players control a nameless protagonist who returns from the dead and becomes involved in a conflict between the Legion of Vallador and the native people of Delen.

The region has been affected by a mysterious element called Woltium, while the rival factions compete for control. Players must eventually choose which side to support, and that decision cannot be reversed.

Each faction will offer its own storyline, with characters and quests to discover across the two camps and surrounding world. The narrative spans five branching chapters, with player actions influencing relationships and events as the story progresses.

Mythic Wave has confirmed two distinct endings tied to the game's faction-driven narrative. The developer says these separate paths are designed to encourage repeat playthroughs.

Rewolt is currently available to wishlist on Steam. The developer has not announced a release window or pricing, and the game remains in development.
