World of Warcraft is about to move away from much of the class setup that defined Midnight Season 1. Patch 12.1, Curse of Ula’tek, launches on August 11 and brings extensive tuning across classes, talents, cooldowns, and damage profiles.
The patch also closes out Season 1 progression before Midnight Season 2 begins on August 18. Players still chasing seasonal achievements and rewards have until the August 11 maintenance to finish their remaining goals.
Blizzard has changed almost every class ahead of Season 2, with several specializations getting updates that could change how they are played. Some abilities are getting stronger, while certain talents and cooldowns are being reduced.
Frost Death Knights, Balance Druids, Beast Mastery Hunters, Fire Mages, Paladins, Shamans, and several other specs are among those receiving extensive tuning. Players may need to revisit talent trees and rotations once the patch is installed.
One of Blizzard’s main goals is to reduce how much some classes depend on short damage cooldowns. Several specs are getting more damage during their normal rotations while losing power from their strongest burst windows.
Fire Mage is one example, with Blizzard increasing general damage while reducing some of the power tied to Combustion. Enhancement Shaman is receiving a similar adjustment that strengthens regular attacks while lowering the impact of Doom Winds.
Patch 12.1 also increases maximum-level player health and enemy damage by 25%. The aim is to change how combat feels while keeping the overall difficulty balanced.
Healing abilities have been adjusted alongside the health increase, with many receiving higher numbers to match the new baseline. Blizzard has also changed defensive tools and talents across several tank and healer specializations.
Curse of Ula’tek adds the Coiled Isle, the Altar of Fangs dungeon, new Delves, Lairs, housing additions, and interface updates on August 11. The new eight-boss Venomous Abyss raid will follow when Midnight Season 2 begins on August 18.
Season 2 will also introduce a fresh Mythic+ dungeon rotation and a new PvP season. Players therefore have one week with Patch 12.1 to adjust their builds and explore the new content before the next competitive season starts.
