Top 5 Characters I Want to See Return in GTA VI

June 30, 2026·6 min read
One of the most exciting parts of every new Grand Theft Auto release is the speculation surrounding the return of characters from previous games. Seeing familiar faces is always a real treat for longtime fans of the series. Sometimes Rockstar includes small Easter Eggs that only reference a character, while in other cases, returning characters play an important role in the game's story.
In GTA San Andreas, players were surprised to see Claude Speed, the main protagonist of GTA III, as well as Kent Paul, best known as the manager of the rock band Love Fist from sunny Vice City. In GTA V, for example, players could recruit Patrick "Packie" McReary from the previous game as a member of the bank heist crew.
Although Rockstar separated the series into the 3D and HD universes after the release of GTA IV, there's nothing stopping iconic characters from returning in a new interpretation or simply as a tribute to longtime fans. Who will we see in the highly anticipated GTA VI? Below are the five GTA characters I would love to see return in the newest entry.

Ken Rosenberg

Ken Rosenberg speaks during a cutscene in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, wearing his signature purple suit and glasses.
Rockstar Games
Some people love him, others can't stand him. Ken Rosenberg is a neurotic, talkative mob lawyer who has never been shy about his substance abuse. We first met him in the legendary GTA Vice City, where he served as one of the game's major non-playable characters. Ken was the lawyer for the Forelli family and was sent to Vice City to oversee the organization's interests there. Over time, he became an advisor and middleman for the game's protagonist, Tommy Vercetti.
A cowardly lawyer who never truly fit into the criminal underworld, Ken also appeared in GTA San Andreas and Vice City Stories. Why would I like to see him return in GTA VI? Above all, it would be a nostalgic callback to 2002, the year Vice City was released. As annoying as Ken could sometimes be, his signature purple suit made him an integral part of Vice City. In my opinion, he has a very good chance of appearing in GTA VI, even if it's only as an Easter Egg.

Niko Bellic

Niko Bellic is questioned by an LCPD detective while sitting behind the wheel of a car in Grand Theft Auto IV.
Rockstar Games
Niko Bellic is a Balkan immigrant who arrived in Liberty City in search of a better life after being convinced by his cousin Roman. Behind his calm exterior is a man scarred by war, capable of extreme violence whenever the situation demands it. His main goal was to track down the people responsible for betraying his military unit, a journey that led him deep into Liberty City's criminal underworld.
Niko is the protagonist of GTA IV, one of the most mature and emotionally driven stories in the entire series. Despite its gangster setting, his story is ultimately about trauma, loss, and the collapse of the American Dream.
Why would I like to see him return? Niko would fit perfectly as a specialist brought in for the toughest jobs. Someone you call when a situation requires precision and a cool head instead of chaos. His return would be a nostalgic reminder of a completely different city and era of GTA. Niko wearing a Hawaiian shirt? I'd absolutely be on board with that.

Carl Johnson

Carl "CJ" Johnson runs with a pistol while police helicopters search overhead in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Rockstar Games
Carl Johnson, better known as CJ, is one of the most iconic characters in GTA history. Loyal to his family, ambitious, and resourceful, he returned to Los Santos after his mother's death to rebuild the standing of his neighborhood and protect the people closest to him, while dealing with gangs, corrupt police officers, and betrayal from those he trusted.
His journey from a young man on Grove Street to one of the most influential figures in San Andreas' criminal underworld remains one of the best stories Rockstar has ever told. CJ is the protagonist of GTA San Andreas, a game widely regarded as one of the most important entries in the series.
Why would I like to see him return? I'd love to find out what happened to him after the events of San Andreas. Did he become successful enough to expand his business all the way to Vice City? Maybe he could appear as the person handing out a few missions, an older, wiser veteran watching the new generation of criminals from a distance with the authority of someone who's already seen it all.

Trevor Philips

Trevor Phillips walks away from a burning pickup truck while carrying a gas can in Grand Theft Auto V.
Rockstar Games
Trevor Philips is chaos in human form. Impulsive, unpredictable, sometimes terrifying, yet fiercely loyal to the very few people he truly trusts. His past as Michael's partner during their early heists, combined with discovering the truth about Michael's fake death, set him on a path of revenge while he continued running drug manufacturing and illegal arms dealing operations in Blaine County.
We first met Trevor as one of the three playable protagonists of GTA V, and he remains my favorite character from that game. I appreciate how authentic he feels despite his complete insanity. Why would I like to see him in GTA VI? It would be fun to see a different version of Trevor. Not wearing torn clothes in a trailer in the middle of the desert, but dressed in a sharp suit while still retaining the same unpredictable energy. He would fit perfectly into the world of GTA VI, a setting built on contrasts.

Tommy Vercetti

Tommy Vercetti stands on a palm-lined street in Vice City in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
Rockstar Games
Tommy Vercetti is a calm, calculating crime boss who combines old-school gangster honor with ruthless determination. After being released from prison, he arrived in Vice City, where a drug deal arranged for him turned into an ambush. To repay his debt to the Forelli family, Tommy gradually took control of the city, one district at a time, until he became completely independent.
Tommy is the protagonist of GTA Vice City, the game whose setting served as the inspiration for the world of the upcoming GTA VI. Although Tommy would likely be over 70 years old during the events of GTA VI, I would still love to see him return. The nostalgia would be off the charts. A major role would certainly be exciting, but even a simple reference or a small Easter Egg would be more than enough to satisfy me. Once again, the split between the 3D and HD universes makes such a return complicated, but the greatest icon of Vice City deserves special treatment.
