Battlefield 6 will fix its ‘Secuty’ skin typo, but the five-pistol outfit is staying

October 19, 2026·3 min read

Battlefield 6 developers confirm a fix for the 'Secuty' skin typo in Season 5 Phase 2, but say the five-pistol Midnight Mirage outfit is intentional.

Battlefield Studios has responded to criticism over two Battlefield 6 Season 5 cosmetics, confirming that a misspelled “SECUTY” patch on a McNeil skin is an error that will be corrected. The separate Midnight Mirage outfit carrying five pistols, however, was designed that way deliberately.

Both cosmetics became targets for jokes and criticism after players noticed the unusual details during Season 5. The studio says the typo will be fixed with the Season 5 Phase 2 release, while the five-pistol design will remain because it was intended as an exaggerated action-movie reference.

The ‘Secuty’ patch was a genuine mistake

The spelling error appears on the standard issue McNeil character skin, where a patch reads “SECUTY.” Battlefield Studios acknowledged that the error should not have reached players and said a correction was already planned for Season 5 Phase 2.

The team also admitted that leaving a known visual problem in the game without promptly explaining it had created unnecessary confusion. Battlefield Studios said mistakes like this “do not reflect the quality standards” it expects from its cosmetics and is reviewing its internal processes to determine how similar issues can be caught earlier.

Midnight Mirage really is supposed to have five pistols

The Midnight Mirage skin attracted similar attention because its character model carries five sidearms across its equipment. Unlike the McNeil typo, Battlefield Studios says this was not an oversight and described the design as a deliberate reference to exaggerated action movies where characters seem to have backup weapons strapped everywhere.

The timing made the outfit look less intentional to some players because it appeared alongside the spelling mistake and other criticism of Season 5 cosmetics. Battlefield Studios acknowledged that combination, saying the five-pistol joke could easily appear accidental when released next to more obvious visual problems.

The response does not address the AI accusations

Some of the criticism surrounding the cosmetics went beyond spelling and design choices, with players questioning whether generative AI had been involved in producing the assets. Battlefield Studios' response does not confirm or deny those claims and instead focuses on the typo, Midnight Mirage's intended design and the team's quality-control process.

The studio says it is reviewing both how cosmetic problems make it through production and how known issues are communicated to players. Season 5 is also the beginning of Battlefield 6's second year of post-launch content, with EA already confirming additional maps, reworks and further updates beyond the current season.
