Battlefield 6 is bringing Wake Island back on August 18, and its new gameplay trailer makes the classic map look built for a much larger fight. Beaches, bunkers, aircraft carriers, jets, boats, and armored vehicles share the battlefield, putting naval warfare right beside the ground action.
Wake Island first appeared in Battlefield 1942 and has returned several times since. Battlefield Studios based this version on its Battlefield V: War in the Pacific appearance, then rebuilt it around the modern setting, scale, and gameplay systems of Battlefield 6.

Battlefield Studios designed the new Wake Island around fighting on land, sea, and air instead of leaving the surrounding ocean mostly empty. Carrier-based headquarters sit offshore. Changes along the coast give naval vehicles more room to attack targets, move past defenses, and support teams on land.
The gameplay trailer keeps the map's familiar beaches, bunkers, military areas, and open water while filling them with modern vehicles. Infantry fight along the shore while jets fly overhead and boats move around the island. This gives squads more ways to reach areas that are hard to attack from land.
Bunkers can also be destroyed with C-4, so reaching a defensive position does not mean it will stay protected for the whole match. Boats and offshore aircraft carriers add more attack routes, giving teams options when a push along the island starts to stall.

Wake Island's curved shape has always kept infantry, vehicles, and aircraft fighting around the same areas. The new version keeps the same basic design, with battles taking place around beaches and military bases. It does not change the map so much that the original becomes hard to recognize.
The footage shows jets crossing above ground battles, boats moving close to shore, and armor pushing through open sections of the island. Infantry still have bunkers and built-up areas where close-range fights can develop away from the largest vehicles.
Season 4 introduced naval warfare before Wake Island's return, including boats and a dynamic wave system. Waves affect boat movement, player aim, and lines of sight, so fighting at sea can change as the water moves instead of playing out across a flat surface.
Wake Island arrives alongside the Battlefield 6 Top Gun event, which adds Carrier Strike and the jets-only Fighter Sweep. Carrier Strike brings ground, naval, and air units into the same battle. Each team tries to destroy the enemy aircraft carrier, making it a good fit for Wake Island's new offshore combat.
Two new two-seat fighters are joining the game as part of the event. The F/A-81F Super Spectre lets a pilot take a wingman into combat, while the F-74A Seacat uses swing wings.
The August update also adds the Interdictor, the longest-range sniper rifle in Battlefield 6. It also adds Spectator Mode and Custom Lobbies through Battlefield Portal. Wake Island leads the update, but its return comes with plenty of new ways to fight across Season 4.
