Metaphor: ReFantazio Switch 2 Demo Now Available With Save Data Transfer

October 15, 2026·3 min read

Metaphor: ReFantazio's free Switch 2 Prologue Demo is now available, with save data carrying over to the full game launching November 12.

Atlus has released a free Prologue Demo for Metaphor: ReFantazio on Nintendo Switch 2, allowing players to experience the opening section of its fantasy RPG before the full game launches on November 12, 2026. Progress made in the demo can be transferred to the purchased version, letting players continue their adventure without starting over.

The demo became available through the Nintendo eShop on October 13, coinciding with the game's second anniversary. Atlus confirmed that players can replay the trial as many times as they like, although some features may differ slightly from the full release.

The demo includes the beginning of Metaphor: ReFantazio, introducing players to the United Kingdom of Euchronia and the events surrounding its royal succession.

Following the king's assassination, the kingdom faces political turmoil as a tournament begins to determine its next ruler. Players control a young protagonist who becomes involved in the competition while travelling across the kingdom and forming relationships with companions.

The opening also introduces the game's combat system, which combines real-time attacks with turn-based battles. Its Archetype system allows characters to unlock different combat roles and abilities, giving players options for building their party.

Atlus has confirmed that players can transfer their Prologue Demo save data directly into the full Nintendo Switch 2 release. Progress made during the opening story and character development can therefore be retained when upgrading to the complete game.

The feature allows newcomers to begin playing before launch without losing their progress. Players can also explore the early systems and decide whether to purchase the full adventure.

The confirmed transfer applies to the Switch 2 demo and its corresponding full release. Atlus has not announced cross-platform save transfers from the existing PlayStation, Xbox or PC versions.

Switch 2 release supports handheld, tabletop and TV play

Metaphor: ReFantazio originally launched in October 2024 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The upcoming Switch 2 version brings Atlus' complete fantasy RPG to Nintendo's newer console.

Nintendo's official store listing confirms support for handheld, tabletop and TV modes. The estimated full-game download size is 62.1GB, although that figure may change before release.

The Switch 2 version also supports Save Data Cloud through Nintendo Switch Online. This is separate from the demo's save-transfer feature, which allows players to carry their existing progress into the full game.

Players can download the Prologue Demo now through the Nintendo eShop, with the complete Switch 2 version available for preorder ahead of launch.
