Bill & Ted Return in New 16-Bit Arcade Game for Consoles and PC

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure: Arcade has been announced for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The upcoming side-scrolling action game features 15 levels, two-player local co-op, and the voices of Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter.

Australian developer Art of Play Interactive revealed the game on November 3, 2026. Based on the original 1989 comedy film, it follows Bill and Ted as they travel through time to collect historical figures for their school history report.

Players can control Bill S. Preston or Ted Logan in a side-scrolling adventure that combines beat 'em up combat with challenges inspired by the film. The game uses handcrafted 16-bit pixel art and an '80s rock soundtrack.

All 15 levels can be played solo or through two-player local co-op. The Steam version also supports Remote Play Together, allowing friends to play together online using the local multiplayer feature.

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter's voices will feature in the game, although the developer has not confirmed whether the actors recorded new dialogue or if their lines come from the original film.

The adventure follows the movie's time-traveling story, with Bill and Ted searching for historical figures to help complete their report. Players will encounter Billy the Kid, Socrates, Napoleon, Beethoven, and Genghis Khan.

Recruiting these characters involves completing individual mini-games rather than simply finding them. Finishing the main story will also unlock an Arcade Mode, standalone mini-games, and additional content.

Art of Play Interactive is preparing a BackerKit crowdfunding campaign for February 2027 to support development. The campaign will offer merchandise, apparel, and digital and physical editions of the game.

The developer also plans further announcements featuring additional movie stars and musical guests, along with new trailers and in-game images. Interested players can follow the official BackerKit campaign or add the game to their Steam wishlist.

A release date has not been announced, and the February 2027 crowdfunding launch should not be confused with the game's release.
