Xbox's 9 Biggest TGS 2026 Announcements, Ranked

September 18, 2026·7 min read

Xbox came to Tokyo Game Show with a surprisingly strange mix this year. One minute Kojima was talking casting, the next SEGA was sending Crazy Taxi to Japan, and somewhere in between a completely new sci-fi visual novel turned memories into something you can steal and move between characters.

Some of the biggest names were already familiar, but several finally gave us something substantial to work with. These are the nine announcements that gave us the most to talk about.

9. Crazy Taxi: World Tour takes us to Japan

Japan is officially joining the road trip in Crazy Taxi: World Tour, and the new trailer made good use of it. We saw older neighbourhoods, dense city streets and plenty of the loud colour SEGA has always associated with the series.

World Tour also gives you more freedom between fares, with areas to explore, locals to pick up, souvenirs to collect and cars to customise. Arcade Mode keeps the classic setup intact for anyone who just wants a timer and a passenger yelling from the back seat.

The Japan reveal was fun, but most of that wider structure was already known. Compared with the games above it, this was more new destination than new direction.

8. Fallout 76 turns a serial killer loose in Appalachia

Fallout 76 went unexpectedly grim with The Slasher, an update built around hunting a masked killer through Appalachia.

Bethesda's animated trailer follows emergency broadcasts into a weeks-long investigation involving Slasher devotees, unmarked graves and the killer himself. The twist is that the Slasher can start hunting you back. Solve the case and you can earn a unique Power Armor set and the Super Slasher weapon.

The concept is one of the more distinctive seasonal stories Bethesda has tried, although the update had already launched on September 15 before the broadcast began.

7. Shape of Dreams arrives on Xbox with a huge update

Shape of Dreams skipped the usual "coming soon" routine and simply launched during the show.

Lizard Smoothie's co-op roguelite is now available on Xbox Series X|S and Game Pass, alongside PS5 and Switch 2. You choose from nine Travelers, manually aim abilities and build each run around Memories that can completely reshape your setup.

Xbox players are also getting a much bigger version than the original PC launch. The Starless Path update adds Cetus as a new Traveler, individual stories for all nine characters, another final boss and a new ending.

Crossplay is included from day one, which helps when a console version arrives a year after an established PC community has already formed. A shadow drop with a major expansion attached earns it a comfortable spot here. The only thing holding it below the top six is that the game itself is no longer new.

6. Kojima finally puts a face to PHYSINT

Kojima Productions still is not ready to show us how PHYSINT actually plays, but at least we now know who is wearing the trench coat.

Bill Skarsgård has been confirmed as the lead, ending months of speculation around the character glimpsed in earlier material. Charlee Fraser also appeared in the new visuals, giving the espionage project a little more shape as production continues.

OD received a smaller update, with Xbox showing behind-the-scenes performance-capture footage featuring Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer.

Both projects remain frustratingly mysterious as games. There was no combat, exploration or real explanation of what we will actually be doing as players. Kojima finally gave PHYSINT a lead actor. How either project actually plays remains a mystery.

5. GACHIAKUTA: BREAKOUT finally shows us the game

Com2uS Corporation

Until TGS, GACHIAKUTA: BREAKOUT was mostly an exciting licence attached to a question mark. Com2uS finally answered the obvious question by showing a melee-focused survival action RPG.

The gameplay centred on Rudo Surebrec fighting at close range alongside Enjin and Riyo Reaper, with Jabber Wonger and Zanka Nijiku among the characters appearing in the footage.

Visually, it looks surprisingly faithful to the manga and anime. Thick outlines, exaggerated movement and a grimy cartoon style keep the source material's personality intact without making combat hard to read once everyone starts swinging.

There is still plenty we do not know about its larger structure, but the Spotlight at least turned BREAKOUT from a name into an actual game. It is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2027.

4. Modern Warfare 4 puts Price on the run

Price has gone from leading Task Force 141 to being hunted by Ghost and Gaz. With the team disbanded after Modern Warfare III, he ends up working with Valeria Garza, better known as El Sin Nombre, despite everything that has happened between them.

Elsewhere, North Korea has invaded South Korea. The trailer followed Private Park Hyun Jun fighting alongside US and Republic of Korea forces, while an antagonist known as the Archer is tied to a weapon threatening the wider conflict.

The campaign will eventually take that story to New York, Paris and Mumbai as well. Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, with campaign early access beginning October 16 for qualifying digital pre-orders.

3. Wo Long 2 gives us a boss, a date and a demo

Team NINJA

Team NINJA packed a lot into Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember. The segment confirmed a March 4, 2027 release date and showed a new boss fight against Zuochi, built around sustained pressure and precise defensive timing.

Then the Alpha Demo went live during the broadcast. It runs until September 30, and finishing it unlocks the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet in the full game. The best part was that viewers could start playing before the broadcast was even over. Wings of Ember also launches day one on Game Pass.

2. Bloomwalker is secretly a Ni no Kuni game

Bloomwalker finally found its identity at TGS when Netmarble revealed that it takes place in the Ni no Kuni universe. Familiars and Higgledies are part of the game, giving the cosy restoration adventure a much clearer connection to the series.

The new footage also showed more of what you actually do in Luminoa. You clean up polluted areas, bring creatures back and gather resources to build new tools and facilities.

Your Moving House travels with you as a mobile base, while the newly revealed Pocket Dimension inside gives you a dedicated space for crafting and construction.

PS5 and Switch 2 versions were also confirmed alongside Xbox and PC.

1. Faraday Blues turns memories into weapons

Serenity Forge

Faraday Blues had the advantage of being completely new, but Serenity Forge still had to sell us on it. The world premiere managed that almost immediately.

The story follows a daughter searching for parents who do not know she exists. Scenes are laid out through character cards, letting you replay parts of the timeline from different perspectives.

The clever part is what happens between those replays. Memories recovered in one run can be attached to another character, changing what they know before a later scene begins.

The game stretches that idea across three interconnected visual novels set in different eras, with choices carrying between them and 64 possible endings.

Faraday Blues launches in 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, PC and PS5, with Xbox Play Anywhere support.

A surprisingly good TGS showing

Xbox never had one enormous reveal waiting at the end of its TGS broadcast. That was fine. It was good to finally get a clearer picture of Modern Warfare 4's campaign, while Wo Long 2 made excellent use of its time by showing a new boss and immediately handing players an Alpha Demo.

The biggest surprise was Faraday Blues. Serenity Forge walked in with a game nobody knew and left with one of the most memorable ideas of the show. Bloomwalker was not far behind once its Ni no Kuni connection finally gave the whole project some context.

For the rest, TGS was mostly about filling in the blanks around games we already knew. With a few genuinely unexpected announcements mixed in, that made for a pretty enjoyable show.
